Internet providers/Broadband & IP Addresses
In order for you to receive live images to your smart device or devices, we will need to connect the CCTV system to your broadband router via a physical wire that we will install or by other wireless means. Your broadband has what’s called an IP address which is like a coded identification number which is used for transmitting data, encrypted information and internet security.
Your IP address can change for a variety of reasons such as but not limited to.
a. Your ISP (internet service provider) can simply change it without any prior notice.
b. This can be caused by a power cut.
c. This can be caused by resetting your broadband router.
As a security company and not a broadband provider, we cannot be responsible for your internet or business network or broadband. The company's responsibility ends at the point your CCTV is connected to your broadband. We cannot be responsible for anything beyond this point.
Call outs to systems that are as a result of internet, broadband or IP address issues are chargeable visits and not covered under any warranty or contract agreement in place at the time.
Lighting
Atlas Alarms Ltd are not responsible for changes in, or additions to, light levels in the view of CCTV cameras due to many external factors. Cameras can automatically adjust their own performance and give you the best level they can, but levels may vary across all cameras at any one time. Therefore, in the unlikely event of images not being fully illuminated or not sufficiently viewing a specific viewing areas, additional lighting may be required. Additional lighting is not included in this quotation.
Environment
There are many external environmental factors that can impact the performance of a CCTV system. Weather, nature and third-party service providers can all interfere with your systems performance. All these external factors are beyond the control of the company and call out visits to systems due to these issues are chargeable to the client.
Privacy - What is the law if my CCTV captures images of people beyond my property.
If your CCTV captures images beyond your property boundary, such as your neighbours’ property or public streets and footpaths, then your use of the system is subject to the data protection laws.
This does not mean you are breaking the law but it does mean that, as the CCTV user, you are a data controller. So you will need to comply with your legal obligations under the data protection laws. You can still capture images, but you need to show you are doing it in ways that comply with the data protection laws and uphold the rights of the people whose images you are capturing. For further information on CCTV and your responsibilities head over to the Information Commissioners Office at www.ico.org.uk
Who is responsible for what?
The security company’s responsibility ends where the CCTV equipment connects to your network.
The primary cause of being unable to see your CCTV system on your smart device is a change in IP address. So before making the call to your security company, please check that your device is looking for the correct IP address because this may well save you time and money. Engineer call outs to a system with an IP address issue are chargeable.

Why choose DNS?
In order to have a consistent way of accessing your surveillance feed remotely, you need to have a constant pointer to your home/office network. If you don't have a static ip address on your internet connection, then obtaining a DNS is an efficient way to ensure that you can reach your device over the internet when away from its location. If your IP address changes while you're away, you could be pointing to a different network. You can't access the cameras if you're not pointing to your own network. With this configuration, you won't have to worry about your property while you're away.
As a security installer, we cannot be responsible for,
- Customer broadband,
- external or internal ip addresses
- customers equipment including routers, PC’s, smartphone devices and tablets, internal wiring, WiFi signal strength or boosters, customers power cuts or interruptions.
